PROJECT
It is with
great
pleasure
that I
inform you
of the NEPAD
Secretariat’s
endorsement
of the
African
Civil
Aviation
Authority
(AFRO-CAA)
Project as a
NEPAD
Project.
This project
fits in
superbly
within the
NEPAD
strategy as
outlined in
the Short
Term Action
Plan (STAP).
As
you are
aware the
STAP has
identified
the
implementation
of the
Yamousoukro
Decision and
the Upper
Airspace
Programme as
a priority.
It is
inevitable
that the
liberation
of the
airline
industry
will lead to
substantial
increases in
air
transport in
the future.
The
Upper
Airspace
control then
becomes even
more crucial
and the
project as
registered
with the
Secretariat,
imperative.
It is our
belief that
this
project, in
developing
and
implementing
common
aviation
safety/security
regulatory
standards
and
procedures,
will serve
as a unified
centre for
enhancing
aviation
commerce,
liberalization,
safety and
security in
the African
airline
industry.
This
consequently
will provide
a level
playing
field for
competition
in and with
Africa which
will
eventually
lead to
substantial
increases in
air
transport to
meet the
current and
future
demands.
The NEPAD
Secretariat’s
role in
programmes
is to stand
supportive,
especially
to
facilitate
implementation.
This
facilitation
includes
mobilization
of support
from the
member
countries
and
identification
of possible
funding
organizations
wherever
possible.
