Summary – Brief
Several visits were made to various
stakeholders and interested parties.

summary of activities is given below).
B Meetings
Meetings were held as follows:
February/March/April 2008
1)
European Commission – Meeting with
Daniel Calleja – Director of
Transport, discussions were held on
possible European Commission support
on the AFRO-CAA and European
Commission expressed concern about
aviation safety in several African
States which have recently been
banned from flying to
Europe. The AFRO-CAA expressed
their concern about their bannings,
but explained that this doesn’t fall
under their jurisdiction.

African Parliament – Murumba Werunga
– Secretary General – It was agreed
that AFRO-CAA should be promoted to
the African Parliament committees at
a date convenient to all parties,
preferably before July 2007.

EuroControl – David McMillan –
Closer corporation was sort by
EuroControl with AFRO-CAA and a
whole day was dedicated by
EuroControl to introduce AFRO-CAA to
their facilities and their
administrative processes.
EuroControl also requested AFRO-CAA
to put them as a link to
AFRO-CAA’s website.

Frankfurt Airport – Mr Rainer
Ruppel Bodenverkehrsdienste/Ramp
-/Passenger Service was introduced
to the AFRO-CAA he agrees to work
with AFRO-CAA for African continent.

Nigeria Civil Aviation
Authority – Dr. Harold Demuren –
Chairman of the AFRO-CAA and the
Director General – Nigeria Civil
Aviation Authority. Briefing was
given on progress made so far in
both Lagos and Abuja. It was agreed
that AFRO-CAA return in May 2008 so
that the Minister of Aviation could
also be briefed.

Meeting was held at the ICAO
Headquarters in
Montreal in April by various
aviation stakeholders and
AFRO-CAA was promoted as a
vehicle for increasing safety
awareness in Africa.

AFRO-CAA was promoted to the Airport
Council International conference
held in
Geneva in April and opened by Mr
Raymond Cron – Director General –
Swiss Civil Aviation Authority.

New brochures were printed
and disturbed worldwide.

continue to be briefed on progress.
E MOUs Development
The French & Arabic
version of the AFRO-CAA website is
yet o

completed.
F AFCAC/NEPAD/ICAO
A
meeting is planned with AFCAC in
Senegal sometimes in June as soon as
a convenient mutually agreeable date
is reached.
G Legal
Several ACARs were completed and
posted on the website. They now
have to be formally discussed and
modified by member states.
Agreement between AFRO-CAA and
Namibia is reaching conclusion.
H Funding
Meetings were held in April 2008 in
Canada and Europe with companies
interested in raising funds for the
AFRO-CAA. Further info will be
given on this as developments take
place.
