PROGRESS REPORT FEB -  APRIL 2007

 

A            Summary – Brief

 

The Agency prepared and finalized documentation and programs for the Inauguration of the AFRO-CAA scheduled for 28th June 2007 in Windhoek, Namibia.

 

(A summary of activities is given below).

 

B             Meetings

 

Meetings were held with the following personnel from the participating States between Jan and April 2007;

 

1.                   Cameroon

Minister:   His Excellency Hon. Minister Dakole Daissala                  Daissala

Director General:  Ignatuis Sama Juma

 

2.                   Libya

Minister:  His Excellency,  Hon Dr. Mohamed A Elmabruk

Director General: Dr. Mohamed Shlebik

Project Coordinator:  Eng. Sulliman El-Mesallati

 

3.                   Ethiopia

Minister:  His Excellency, Hon. Juneydi Saddo

Director General:  Mesfin Fikru

 

4.                   Nigeria

Meeting scheduled in first week of May 2007 after the Nigerian Elections.

 

5.                   South Africa

Meeting scheduled on 04th May 2007.

 

6.                   Namibia

Several meetings were held with the Director General B.T Mujetenga to chart out the program for the inauguration ceremony.

 

The Minister and Senior Ministry officials were also briefed in writing about the upcoming events.

               

7.                    The third World Bank ATAG/ICAO meeting was attended in Ethiopia and participants privately briefed about progress made with the AFRO-CAA.

 

8.          Scheduled meetings for May 2007 include the African Aviation Ministers meeting in Ethiopia and the AFCAC meeting in Kenya.

 

C         Programme Follow-up/Marketing

 

1)                  The tentative inauguration programme was developed in consultation with participating States.

2)                  The tentative inauguration brochure was drawn up to be edited by participating States.

 

D         SADC, EAC, IATA, ECA, AFRAA

 

            Invitations to the inauguration ceremony were sent out    officials  officials of these organizations. 

 

 

E          MOUs Development

 

The final MOUs in English, French and Arabic were presented electronic format.  The specially bound formats are to be prepared in time for the signing at the inauguration.

 

 

F          AFCAC/NEPAD/ICAO

 

1.                   Invitations to the inauguration ceremony were sent out to officials of these organizations.

2.                   Other bodies invited were EASA, FAA, World Bank, African Development Bank, AU and a number of companies and organizations with interests in aviation.

            This remains the same as in previous MOUs.
