PROGRESS REPORT MAY – JULY 2007

Summary – Brief
The
Agency finalized preparations for the Inauguration
of the AFRO-CAA which was held on the 28th
June 2007 in Windhoek, Namibia.
(A summary of activities is given
below).
B
Meetings
1.
Several meetings were held with Namibia’s Director
of Civil Aviation, Mr B.T Mujetenga and Senior
Ministerial officials to finalize the details of the
Inauguration ceremony.
2.
Several meetings were also held with the Honourable
Minister of Transport Joël Kapaanda and the
Ministry’s Permanent Secretary S.N Njaba for the
same purpose.
3.
The 3rd African Aviation Ministers
meeting was attended in Ethiopia and participants
were privately briefed about the upcoming AFRO-CAA
Inauguration.
4. A
meeting subsequent to the Inauguration was held in
Addis Ababa with the AU Commissioner for
Infrastructure and Energy, Dr. Bernard Zoba and his
Senior Advisor, Alberto Adiron. The purpose of
the meeting was to seek the African Unions support
on specific issues for the AFRO-CAA. Further
consultations are to follow.
5.
The Inauguration of the AFRO-CAA was successfully
held at the Safari Hotel in Windhoek, Namibia on the
28th June 2007. The meeting was
well attended by the international aviation
community, diplomats, media and general public.

Programme Follow-up/Marketing
1.
The local and international media gave wide coverage
to the Inauguration
of
of AFRO-CAA.
2.
The interest generated was so great that the African
Parliament Magazine decided to advertise the
AFRO-CAA as a major project requiring initiative
from donors to Africa.
3.
Various donor nations and embassy’s visited the
AFRO-CAA offices, to discuss ways and means of
cooperation with the new organization.
4.
The programme of the AFRO-CAA Inauguration is also
included below.

Ms Tanja
Grobotek, Assistant Director of African Safety
Operations and Infrastructure for IATA requested on
briefing on the AFRO-CAA and the meeting was held
with her in Johannesburg on the same.

MOUs Development
The MOUs
were signed at the Inauguration by each of
participating States all who appended their
signatures to the English, French and Arabic
version.

AFCAC/NEPAD/ICAO
1.
The 19th AFCAC Plenary meeting was
attended in Kenya and interested States were invited
to join the AFRO-CAA.
2. A
visit was made to the NEPAD offices where briefing
documents on the AFRO-CAA Inauguration were
submitted to the Director of Transport, Mr Godwin
Punungwe.
3. A
scheduled attendance of the general meeting of ICAO
in September 2007 will go forward.

when finalized.
