PROGRESS REPORT FEB – APRIL 2004

 

A         Summary – Brief

 

The ACAA (Pty) Ltd has concentrated on making initial contact with various African States and Civil Aviation Authorities deemed to be potential participants of the AFRO-CAA.

A summary of activities is given below:

 B          Meetings

1. The 13th Annual MRO African Aviation        Conference was attended  in Johannesburg         between the 22nd and 24th March 2004.The AFRO-         CAA Programme and MOUs brochures where distributed to the following countries.

    

           Cameroon -  Mr Ateh :  Cameroon Airlines - to forward to Director General Cameroon CAA

          Egypt  -  Major General Kato :  ICTSD – to forward to Director General Egypt CAA

          Ethiopia  - Mr Afework – Ethiopian Airlines- to forward to Director General Ethiopia CAA

          Nigeria  -  Mr Gasba Nigeria CAA - to forward to Director General Nigeria CAA

          South Africa -  Mr Matsobane – Commissioner of South Africa CAA

  • 2. A meeting was held with Director of Civil Aviation Namibia where he was   briefed on the above and other developments.

 C         Program Follow-up/ Marketing

  • Confirmation was received from the Director Generals of Cameroon, Ethiopia and Nigeria that they had received the brochures from the above contacts made in Johannesburg.  No confirmation has been received from Egipt.

Cameroon, Ethiopia, Nigeria and South Africa are positive about the proposal  and are desirous of further discussions on the same.

 D         SADC, EAC, IATA, ECA, AFRAA

  1. The Director of Civil Aviation of Namibia made a formal presentation of the company’s proposal in Luanda Angola during the SADC-CAC meeting.  Minutes indicate that delegates where very positive about the proposal and made a request that the proposal be tabled at the AFCAC plenery meeting in May 2004 in South Africa.      

  2. The Director of Civil Aviation urged that contacts be made with the ECA, IATA and AFRAA.  The ACAA confirmed to the Director that the technical Director of that AFRAA (Mr. Chingosho) had been contacted during the MRO in Johannesburg.  They had been given a brochure and were also positive and desirous for future meetings on the same.

 E          MOUs Development

  •  The MOUs developed by the company continued to be distributed unchanged to potential participants.

 F          AFCAC/NEPAD/ICAO

  1.  A copy of the brochure did and an introductory note on the project was submitted to NEPAD for their perusal and comments. 

  2.   The company has made arrangements to attend the AFCAC plannery meeting in May 2004 in Johannesburg.  Progress on that meeting would be reported at a later day.

 

 G         Legal

  •  A copy of the MOUs was submitted to lawyers for legal opinion and the latter prepared an updated version for discussions with potential participants. 

H         Funding

  •  Potential donors for the project continue to await concrete participative progress from member states before they release any financial support for the project.
